Most of us know that you can use the CHANGECOMPANY function in NAV to change the target company for a query in NAV to allow us to perform C.R.U.D. operations against a table in another NAV Company. While that can be pretty handy for reading data, it has several difficiencies when we want to perform an INSERT, MODIFY or DELETE. The biggest difference is that any Triggers that get triggered actually get run against the Company where the code is being executed from and not against the target company. With the advent of the NAV Web Services we have a new alternative.

The Statement of Direction and roadmap for Microsoft Dynamics NAV gives you the overview of the roadmap and plans from 2011 and next 2-3 major releases.

As part of the Business Ready Customer Care initiative announced October 2007, Microsoft is providing ongoing roadmap visibility through comprehensive statements of direction that provide our customers with insight into the planned product innovations at least 12-18 months in advance of the next version release. Learning about future technology innovations in advance, will help you more efficiently manage your infrastructure and undertake product and IT planning with greater foresight.

Occassionally some of the NAV Metadata gets damaged and you may want to rebuild/recompile all of the NAV Objects as a first step in troubleshooting this issue. The problem is that there are a few system objects that you can't get to through the object designer. So how can you recompile them as well? Well there is a trick that should do it, as I will explain below in the following Step-by-Step instructions.

Do you use multiple Companies and/or Databases and have trouble figuring out which system you are currently in? Well if you are using Version R2 and the Role-Tailored Client, there is a helpful solution. You could have a banner like this appear at the top of every window.

What does the planning flexibility field actually do and where does it appear? The planning flexibility field is available on a purchase order, a production order, and a transfer order. It used to keep these orders from being considered when you are running the "Planning Worksheet" at a later date since NAV wants to change and group orders for the sake of efficiency........

Have you ever found that the column you are looking for doesn't appear under Choose Columns in the Role-Tailored Client. This problem has been around throughout all of the 2009 releases of Microsoft Dynamics NAV.  Here is how to fix it.

For one reason or another it may occasionally be necessary to "Delete/Rename" the NAV User Configuration File for a user that is experiencing a problem with NAV. The File Name, Path and what the Configuration file actually stores depends on the client (Classic or RTC) that the user is using.

Re: Microsoft and Skype
Isn't this just great: there is already an add-in available for Skype calling through the NAV Role Tailored Client.

Re: MS Auto Bill Pay starting April 1st 2011
Bradley,
You have a way with words. Not sure Microsoft would want you writing their brohcures though. Quoted above "Customers need to pay the Microsoft Enhancement before the due date or face repercussions." Face Repurcussions is definitely a politically incorrect way of saying no grace periods are allowed for being late any longer. In other words the penalty for being late on enhancement kicks in immediately. I am glad that it is only a monetary penalty. We could have to sign over our fist born to enslavement or something.

Re: NAV 2009 Keyboard Short Cut Keys
The one that is always missing in these kind of shortcut lists is the ALT + DOWN ARROW for drop down/ lookup, which is a very smart alternative for F6 in the classic client but also as alternative for F4 in RTC
